Level-3 Training Overview

This training is designed for those who will make Digital Storytelling their career path and involves both instruction and long-term mentorship from Common Language before receiving a certificate of completion. The ultimate goal of this level of training is for participants to be able to run their own trainings around the world with the on-going support of Common Languge.

Level-3 Training Outline

Prepare: Introduction to Training DST Facilitators (3hrs)

Learn & Plan: Day 1-2 (16hrs) - Technical and Theoretical Foundations of Teaching Digital Storytelling

Practice: Day 3-8 (54hrs) - Co-lead a Common Language DST Level 1 Facilitator workshop with a Common Language Trainer.

Debrief: Day 9 (8hrs) - Debrief of workshops, post-production and batch processing of story, and planning for Digital Story Screenings

Practice: Day 10-15 (54hrs) - Co-lead a Common Language DST Level 2 Facilitator workshop with a Common Language Trainer.

Course Details

Pre-requisites: Level 2 Training Completed, Facilitated at least 10 Digital Storytelling workshops and a minimum of 120 Digital Stories.

Class Size: Maximum 2 Trainees

Cost: $2,000 for all instruction, materials, and long-term mentorship. Trainees will not be paid for their co-facilitation of the Level 1 Facilitator training as part of the Level 3 training. Once they have completed the training, any subsequent work with Common Language will be paid.

One of the most important aspects of becoming a skilled and reflexive Digital Storytelling Facilitator is mentorship. The Common Language Advantage is that all trainees have the option of joining the Common Language Collective and becoming a CLDST Certified DST Facilitator after completion of their course.
