The Common Language Story Slam 2026 showcases 12 powerful stories selected for their compelling narratives and meaningful impact. Light refreshments provided!

The LIVE EVENT with be hosted at cSpace Theatre in Marda Loop, Calgary, Alberta, Canada and live-streamed online around the world.

Event Schedule
Afternoon Screening:
2:00pm - 4:00pm, doors open at 1:30pm
Evening Screening: 6:30pm - 8:30pm, doors open at 6:00pm

Each screening features six carefully curated digital stories, followed by audience interaction and storyteller interviews that deepen the conversation and connection.

Story #1: A Better Man - Storyteller: Dan Pubben | Facilitator: Mike Lang
Dan shares about his experience living with ALS and reflects on fatherhood in the midst of a terminal illness.

Story #2: Human After All - Storyteller: Marie Holowachuck | Facilitator: Angie Turner
Marie recounts a mistake made during her veterinarian residency, and the lasting impact it has had on her practice.

Story #3: My Healing Lens - Storyteller: Anita O'Keefe | Facilitator: Natasha Bilau
Anita explores the role of photography in healing from infant losses, examining how images can provide comfort and preserve precious memories.

Story #4: Penn the Brave - Storyteller: Catherine Gulinao | Facilitator: Shirley Sullivan
Catherine shares a fairytale story of the kindest and bravest little girl in all the lands, and the lasting impact she has had in the world pediatric cancer research.

Story #5: When Words Fade - Storyteller: Linda Wiebe | Facilitator: Jen Siran
When Words Fade follows the journey of Linda and Herb as they navigate a diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia and Early-Onset Alzheimer's.

Story #6: The Long Way Home - Storyteller: Colin Peters | Facilitator: Mike Lang
Colin shares his experience living with PTSD from his time in the military and explores critical role of family support throughout his journey.

EVENING SCREENING

Story #1: The Invisible Child - Storyteller: Greg Kemp | Facilitator: Heather Alicia Knox
The last of five children in a dysfunctional family, Greg shares a unique perspective of growing up in middle America in the 1950s.

Story #2: Creating a Home - Storyteller: Shantiga Merriman | Facilitator: Mike Lang
Shantiga shares her challenging journey of becoming a healthcare aide and reflects on the challenges and rewards of entering the caregiving profession.

Story #3: Gillian's Story - Storyteller: Gillian Hatto | Facilitator: Melody Williamson
Gillian's infant loss story demonstrates how hope and comfort can be strengthened through a community built on compassion and shared understanding.

Story #4: Adrift - Storyteller: Jack | Facilitator: Krystle Schofield
Jack shares their story of cancer diagnosis and treatment as a young trans person.

Story #5: Racing Time - Storyteller: Nikol Faltysova | Facilitator: Kristy Wolfe
Nikol shares about the challenges with accessing important medications as she advocates for her young son who is living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Story #6: …to do it well… - Storyteller: David Finch | Facilitator: Melody Williamson
Jeannie Finch died of GBM brain cancer. She always said that there are many ways to do life well and as her caregiver, David had to learn to do it well too.
